  • The movie “Ninaithale Inikkum” has music by Vijay Antony.
    • “Azhagai Pookudhey” song is my pick from this album though the pallavi sometimes reminds me of an Ilayaraja song from “Krishnan Vandhaan”.
    • “Sexy Lady” song from Ninathale Inikkum movie has been telecasted now and then in Sun and Kalaignar TV.
    • It reminds me of “Jigiru thaanda” song from “Machakaran” .Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

    • Gheorge Zamfir is a well known pan flute musician from Romania.He is the master of the Pan flute.
    • I happened to hear his song “The Lonely Shepherd” recently.Such an amazing song.This song is used in Kill Bill if i am Right.
    • The starting flute piece of “Meendum Meendum Vaa” song from the movie “Vikram”(Kamal Hassan’s movie) composed by Maestro Ilaiyaraaja sir is very much similar to “The Lonely Sheperd” flute piece..The starting flute piece alone is inspired(In My Opinion) but the tune is something exceptional.

    • As we all know,Sholay is the highest earning movie of all time in Indian Cinema.
    • The British Broadcasting Corporation(BBC) proclaimed it “Film of the Millenium”.
    • The theme music of Sholay by sir  Rahul Dev Burman has been enjoyed by everyone.Though its a great great tune,the initial guitar piece seems to be inspired from the movie “Prathidwani” which has music by sir  G.K.Venkatesh.
    • Prathidwani with Dr.Rajkumar in the lead got released in the year 1971 whereas Sholay with sir Amitabh Bachchan in the lead released in 1975 only.
    • An interesting part here – Ilaiyaraaja sir assisted G.K.Venkatesh sir for the movie “Prathidwani” as a Guitarist.The guitar piece is Ilaiyaraaja’s own composition(as reliable sources said and i also hope the same) and he played it for the song “Mareyadiru sneha”.
    • Another interesting fact is that Ilaiyaraaja has used the same guitar piece for the song “Devan Thiruchabai Malargale” in the movie “Avar Enakke Sontham” which got released in the year 1977.

    • Last Night i was watching one of  my favorite movies  “The sixth sense” directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
    • All of a sudden,i happened to hear a sound track in the movie which reminds me of a title track in some Tamil movie.
    • I have been thinking about this all night long and Off course i got the clue.
    • You should have a look at the following video from the Tamil movie “Marupadiyum”(which means “Again” and That’s why the post title).Follow the soundtrack in the video embedded.(First 30 seconds)

  • I’ve listened to the soundtrack “Niniavo Oru Paravai” composed by Ilaiyaraaja for the movie “Sigappu Rojakkal” umpteen times.
    • But just today I noticed that there is a tinge of Titanic theme in this number.
    • This may be an illusion. But as a layman(Knows nothing about music notes and all), the similarity is somewhat interesting and new to me.
    • Listen to the second interlude from “Ninaivo Oru Paravai” here.(at 00:20 – 00:29)
    • You can hear the original “Titanic Theme” composed by James Horner somewhere in the Internet.
    • Another soundtrack that comes to my mind with a feel of Titanic Theme is “Oh Unnale” composed by Ilayaraja for the movie “En Arugil Nee Irundhaal”(the prelude flute music)

  • I’m just listening to “Hathiri adoo maadhiri” from the movie “Surya IPS” by Ilaiyaraaja.
    • I have noticed that the prelude in the song reminds me of the humming in “Kaadhalikkum pennin kaigal” from the movie Kaadhalan by AR Rahman.
    • Note: I don’t know about Raga, major scale or minor scale. I’m just a layman. Experts should say whether it is a coincidence or inspired thing or just an illusion.
    • For your information, Surya IPS released in 1991 and Kaadhalan released in 1994.

  • It is possible for a song or tune to have so many versions (may be in same language or in different languages).
    • One such master piece which has multiple versions (all of them are great) is our Maestro Ilaiyaraaja’s tune.
    • First Version got released in the year 1982 for the Malayalam movie “Olangal” directed by the legendary director Balu Mahendra. Music by Ilaiyaraaja.The song is “Thumbi Vaa”.
    • Second Version came out the same year for the Telugu Movie “Nireekshana” directed by Balu Mahendra. Music by Ilaiyaraaja and the song is “Aakasham enatidho”.
    • Third Version came out one year later (1983) for the Tamil movie “Auto Raja” which has actor Vijayakanth in the lead role.
    • Actually the movie “Auto Raja” has music composed by none other than Shankar Ganesh. The producer of the movie was impressed by the song “Thumbi Vaa” from Olangal.So he requested our Maestro Ilaiyaraaja to compose the same tune in Tamil and the final product is “ Sangathil Paadatha Kavidhai”
    • And here comes the fourth version “Neer Veezhchi thee mootudhae” from the movie “Kanne Kalaimaane” which got released in the year 1988.Music by Ilaiyaraaja.
    • And here is the final version “Monday Tho” from the movie “Aur Ek Prem Kahani” released in 1995.The movie is a remake of Kannada movie “Kokila” directed by Balu Mahendra. Music by Ilaiyaraaja …
    • What about the Instrumental versions? You may ask… There are two available as far as I know.
    • First one from Ilaiyaraaja sir’s Jaya TV concert “Andrum Indrum Endrum”.
    • Second one from Ilaiyaraaja’s “music Journey -Live in Italy 2005” concert.
    • Note : The tune came as a background track in the movie “Moondram Pirai” directed by Balu Mahendra with Raaja sir’s Humming.I think this must be Balu Mahendra Sir’s favourite tune.He has used it in four of his movies so far.
