A Cover Version by A.R.Rahman?

Benson - Adam schlesinger - Rahman

Benson - Adam schlesinger - Rahman

  • Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na – One of the best albums in 2008.Music by our Master A.R.Rahman.He was Awarded with Filmfare Best Music Director Award for this album.
  • Kahin To” song is everyone’s favorite. Its my favorite too. Such a pleasing song. It always reminds me of “Nothing’s gonna change my love for you” by George Benson.
  • Two days Before, I told my friend(Mr.Kamal) that “Kahin To” is somewhat close to “Nothing’s gonna change my love for you“.And he said “No way. There may be a slight resemblance at the prelude. But I prefer George Benson’s song to this one.{Actually He doesn’t like Kahin To song}”.Well, Opinion Differs.
  • Last Night I was surprised to see this information in wikipedia page for “Nothing’s gonna change my love for you”.
  • A. R. Rahman reproduced a similar version of this song in Hindi for the film ‘Jane Tu Ya Jane Na’ in 2008.”

    - This is the actual information filed(not by me for sure) under Cover Versions of “Nothing’s gonna change my love for you” wikipedia page.Check it out.

  • “Nothing’s gonna change my love for you” was originally recorded by George Benson in the year 1984.Listen to the original song here.
  • Here is the most famous among the cover versions of “”Nothing’s gonna change my love for you”.Recorded by by Hawaiian singer Glenn Medeiros.
  • Listen to the song “Kahin To” by A.R.Rahman here.
  • When I was discussing this thing a moment ago with my friend Mr.Senan, he mentioned a song “Way Back Into Love” from movie “Music and Lyrics“which is quite similar to “Kahin To” backing music.(that May be illusionary)
  • Anyway Listen to the song “Way Back Into Love” by Hugh Grant and Haley Bennett here.Song written by Adam Schlesinger.

Question 1 : Do you think "Kahin To" is a cover version of "Nothing's Gonna change my love for you"? Question 2 : Do you think "Kahin To" backing music is similar to "Way back in to love"?

John Doan – The Journey Home – AR Rahman

John Doan - AR Rahman

  • Last night when I was surfing the Internet, I came to know about a song titled “The Journey Home” by John Doan ( master of the twenty-string harp guitar).
  • I’m loving this song, really mesmerizing. Great to hear.
  • I have a doubt. Is there any connection between “The Journey Home” by John Doan and “The Journey Home” by our master AR Rahman? This sounds silly.Right?
  • Sometimes John Doan’s “The Journey Home” reminds me of AR Rahman’s “The Journey Home” from Bombay Dreams. Is this an illusion? or Is there something musically similar(may be the genre) between The Journey Homes?
  • Listen to the song “The Journey Home” by John Doan here. This was released in 1998 i believe.
  • Here is the song “The Journey Home” by AR Rahman from Bombay Dreams released in the year 2002.
  • No doubt both songs are great IMO. What do you feel about these songs? Pour your comments if possible.

Praveen Mani - Rahman

Praveen Mani - Rahman

  • I hope many of you guys like the song “Jumbalakka Jumbalakka” from “En Swasa Kaatrae”.Music by our Master A.R.Rahman.
  • Many people claimed that the starting humming from “Jumbalakka Jumbalakka”  is an inspiration from an Italian song, Japanese song and so and so.But its no way a copy or inspiration. Its just a sample loop used by Praveen Mani.
  • The rhythm programming for that song was done by Praveen Mani.Hope i am right.
  • You can hear a similar humming(somewhat) in the song “Desesperada” from the Album “Sensual Sensual”(released in 1998) by B-Tribe.
  • Some Rahman sir fans may know this already.Anyway,I want to share this information with everyone who loves this song.
  • Listen to the song “Desesperada” from Sensual Sensual here.
  • Here is the song “Jumbalakka Jumbalakka” from En Swaasa Kaatrae (released in 1999).

A tribute to Cole Porter by A.R.Rahman?

Cole Porter - Isham Jones - Kenny G - Rahman

Cole Porter - Isham Jones - Kenny G - Rahman

  • Vaali is my favorite lyricist. He is good in acting too(movies like Hey Ram, Paarthale Paravasam and Poikkal Kudhirai). He has a great musical knowledge.
  • Last week i happened to hear an english song titled “Let’s do it(Let’s fall in love)” by Cole Porter.A small part of the lyrics from that song is given below.
  • And that’s why birds do it, bees do it
    Even educated fleas do it
Let’s do it, let’s fall in love
  • The above part reminds me of the starting of the song “Jillendru oru Kaadhal“(music by our master A.R.Rahman) Lyrics by our Vaali sir.A small part of the lyrics from the song “Jillendru Oru Kaadhal” is given below.
  • Paravaigal seiyudhey, pattaampoochchi seiyudhey
    nadhigal seiyudhey , marangal seiyudhey
    yaadhum seiyudhaey, neeyum seiya vaa
    kaadha
    l
  • Is it a tribute to Cole Porter by Vaali? or A.R.Rahman?..
  • There is no similarity in music between those two songs(I think).May be its one of his(A.R.Rahman or Vaali) favorite numbers.
  • Listen to the song “Let’s do it(Let’s fall in love)” – Cover version by Alanis Morissette here.
  • Here is the song “Jillendru oru Kaadhal” song (music by A.R.Rahman and Lyrics by Vaali)
  • Now,I have a doubt that whether there is any connection between “Jillendru Oru Kaadhal” song and “It had to be you“.
  • “It had to be you” is a very famous song with music by Isham Jones.I happened to hear the cover version of this song by Kenny G.It reminds me of Jillendru Oru kaadhal song sometimes.May be an Illusion? i think so.Both songs are of Jazz genre.(This may be the reason for the illusion).
  • Listen to the song “It had to be you” – a cover version by Kenny G.
  • The release dates are given below

“Let’s Do It, Let’s Fall in Love” – 1928 – Cole Porter

Cover version of “Let’s do it” – 2005 – Alanis Morissette

“It had to be you” – 1924 – Isham Jones

Cover version of “It had to be you” – November 14, 2006 – Kenny G

Jillendru Oru Kaadhal song – August 2, 2006 – A.R.Rahman

There are so many cover versions available for both “It had to be you” and “Lets do it” songs. For more information about these songs, see Wikipedia.

Note : Kenny G’s cover version release date is November 14,2006 where as Rahman’s “Jillendru Oru Kadhal” song release date is August 2,2006.This doesn’t mean that Kenny G is inspired by Rahman’s Number. The Original number “Let’s do it” was first published in 1924.

  • Here is the soundtrack “Little Prince Love theme” from Missing.
  • There is one more version for the above soundtrack.I can’t find that in Internet. Its very close to the Kallori song from Ninaithale Inikkum.
  • The soundtrack “Little Prince Love theme” from Missing sometimes reminds me of “The Journey Home” from Bombay Dreams composed by our Master A.R.Rahman which in turn reminds me of “Oh L’amour” by Erasure.Musical Illusion?
